Visa-Free Entry to Serbia (Special Conditions)

On 30 October 2014, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted a decision allowing visa-free entry for certain foreign nationals.

Who Can Enter Serbia Without a Visa?

Foreign nationals do NOT need a Serbian visa if they:

  • Hold a valid national passport (excluding emergency or convention-issued travel documents), AND

  • Possess a valid visa of:

    • Schengen Area

    • United Kingdom (UK)

    • Any EU Member State

    • United States of America (USA)
      OR

  • Hold a valid residence permit from:

    • Schengen Area countries

    • EU Member States

    • United States of America

Allowed Stay Duration

  • Maximum 90 days within any 180-day period

  • Stay must be within the validity of the visa or residence permit

Traveling With Two Passports

Foreign nationals may enter Serbia using:

  • An expired passport containing a valid visa or residence permit, and

  • A new valid passport without a visa

Residence Permit Card Holders

If your residence permit is issued as a separate card (not a passport sticker), you must present:

  • Your valid passport

  • Your residence permit card

Serbia Digital Travel Authorization (e-Visa)

As of 23 April 2025, Serbia has introduced Digital Travel Authorizations (DTA).

What Is a Digital Travel Authorization?

A Digital Travel Authorization is an electronic approval for:

  • Entry

  • Stay

  • Transit through Serbia

Who Is Eligible?

  • Citizens of selected countries

  • Applicants meeting:

    • Low risk of irregular migration

    • Reciprocity in visa policy

    • Security and national interest requirements

If these conditions are not met, a traditional visa sticker will be issued instead.

Security & Verification

  • ICAO-compliant (Machine Readable Travel Documents standard)

  • Contains:

    • Validity QR Code

    • Border-check QR Code

    • Electronic seal from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Types of Serbian Visas

1. Short-Stay Visa (Visa C)

Purpose: Tourism, business, private visits, transit

  • Valid for up to 90 days within 180 days

  • Single, double, or multiple entries

  • Does NOT allow application for temporary residence (unless legally exempted)


2. Long-Stay Visa (Visa D)

Purpose: Employment, education, family reunification, long-term stay

  • Valid for 90 to 180 days

  • Mandatory for foreigners who plan to:

    • Apply for temporary residence in Serbia

    • Work legally in Serbia

Employment rights must comply with Serbian foreign employment laws.


General Serbia Visa Requirements

All applicants must submit:

  1. Completed visa application form

  2. Valid passport:

    • Issued within the last 10 years

    • Valid at least 90 days after departure

    • Minimum two blank pages

  3. One passport-size photo (3.5 × 4.5 cm)

  4. Visa fee

  5. Proof of purpose of stay

  6. Letter of invitation:

    • Private visit: Certified invitation from Serbia

    • Business visit: Invitation from Serbian company

    • Tourism: Travel voucher or proof of payment

  7. Valid travel medical insurance


Additional Requirements

For Transit Visa

  • Valid visa for the next destination country
